Overview

Bringing the identity of La Basilica into the digital space

La Basilica is a historic restaurant in Sorrento with a strong and recognisable identity rooted in local culture, Mediterranean cuisine, and authentic Neapolitan pizza. The project focused on translating that personality into a digital experience through the design of the website and the expansion of the visual identity. Working within Stinga Consulting, alongside Francesco Marena, we developed a direction that could preserve the restaurant’s heritage while making the brand feel fresh, expressive, and relevant for a wider audience.

How to make tradition feel contemporary without losing authenticity

The main challenge was to create a visual and digital language that respected the history and character of La Basilica while making it more appealing to a younger and more international audience. The brand already had a very strong personality, including a bold and saturated colour palette, so the task was to use those elements in a refined and elegant way rather than letting them become visually overwhelming. Another key challenge was integrating expressions in Neapolitan dialect into the communication system, using them as a distinctive cultural asset without compromising clarity, accessibility, or sophistication. The website also needed to feel modern, engaging, and memorable, especially in a destination like Sorrento where attracting tourists is essential.

A vibrant and elegant brand experience designed for both heritage and attraction

The solution was to build a digital identity that amplifies the soul of La Basilica instead of simply presenting it. The website combines expressive typography, editorial-inspired layouts, and a colour palette drawn from the restaurant’s existing visual world to create a bold yet balanced interface. Dialect phrases were integrated as character-defining elements, helping the brand feel local, authentic, and memorable. At the same time, the overall experience was designed to feel contemporary and visually engaging, with a more pop and dynamic tone capable of attracting younger users and international visitors. The result is a brand and website system that celebrates the restaurant’s history while positioning it in a fresh and relevant way.
